Kwa-Mbili Game Lodge
Thornybush Game Reserve - (South Africa)

Location:

Explore the African bush on foot and from the back of an open safari vehicle. Discover the animal world, from the smallest termite to the tall and elegant giraffe, from the cute dwarf mongoose to the moody buffalo.

Listen to the distant roar of the lion whilst relaxing around the campfire, or simply appreciate the silence, space and brilliant night skies.

Kwa-Mbili is an affordable game lodge, situated in the Thornybush Nature Reserve adjacent to the Kruger National Park. It offers a large variety of bird and game species, including occasional sightings of elephant, lion, buffalo and cheetah.

It is the ideal place to use as a base from which to explore this part of South Africa. If you love the brilliant blue of the African sky, the deep crimson of a bushveld sunset and the iridescent shades of the malachite kingfisher…

If you prefer a small, friendly and intimate bush lodge, where the emphasis is on personal service, good traditional bush cuisine and a warm and relaxing atmosphere… You will love Kwa-Mbili!

Accommodation:

Kwa-Mbili offers guests a choice of accommodation.

By limiting guests to 10 per night we can offer a choice of accommodation in colorful African style thatched chalets with en-suite facilities or luxury en-suite safari tents which will ensure an unsurpassed bush experience. The thatched chalets are decorated in colorful African style. Each chalet has its own en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. The chalets have electricity and overhead fans. Each chalet has a patio where guests can sit and enjoy the natural surroundings.

The safari tents are furnished with either double or single beds. Each safari tent has its own en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin.  The safari tents have thatched roofs over them to protect them from too much sun as well as shelter the bathroom areas from rain. The tents also have sheltered patio areas.

The lodge offers a comprehensive infrastructure:

  • Accommodation in either thatched chalets or safari tents

  • Thatched relaxation and dining areas

  • Friendly bar and curio shop

  • Comfortable hide overlooking a water hole

  • Filtered splash pool

  • All-weather aircraft landing strip

  • Laundry service

Game Viewing / Activities:

We endeavor to meet specific needs - our program is therefore quite flexible. Even though Kwa-Mbili is part of the "Big 5" Thornybush Nature Reserve which offers abundant game and bird species, our philosophy is that a safari experience should be holistic.

The bush offers much more than the well-known animal species! We try to impart a little knowledge and understanding of the complex interactions within the bush environment to our guests. We want our guests to leave with not only good memories of the bush, but with an appreciation for the diversity of nature. Typically… Late afternoon, depart on a game drive, enjoy sundowners in the bush before continuing on an exciting night game drive. Return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening under African skies around the camp-fire.

The next morning, after an early wake-up call, enjoy tea/coffee and traditional rusks before departing on a walking safari. The focus is on the small things in the bush - learning to track animals, how termites live, what the various trees and plants are used for, etc. Encounters with animals while on foot are always exciting! After the exhilarating walk, a full English breakfast is served in the lapa. A light lunch is served around 13:15.  The day can be spent at leisure: Read and relax around the filtered pool or spot birds and animals from the hide. Alternatively, numerous attractions in the area can be visited.
